A series of diabetes classes that have helped thousands of South Texans manage the disease will be offered for the first time at a location in Robstown.
The Texas A&M Health Science Center (TAMHSC) Coastal Bend Health Education Centerís diabetes management class will be offered at a new location in Robstown in November and December. The classes give patients a deeper understanding of diabetes that they often do not receive from a rushed doctorís visit. Throughout the four-class series, patients will learn more about diabetes as a disease, tips for eating well, ways their medications affect their bodies and blood glucose monitoring.
After completing the class, each patient is part of a yearlong follow-up program that includes quarterly labs, nutrition counseling and meetings with diabetes educators. Class cost is $25, but patients served by the Nueces County Health District have this fee covered.
The class is offered in four, two-hour portions. The November class dates are Nov. 1, 2, 8 and 9.
Patients may register by calling (361) 857-2945.
Registered patients with diabetes and their families are welcome to attend. The classes will take place at CHRISTUS Spohn Family Health, at 1083 Texas Yes Blvd., Robstown, Tx 78380. The first class will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1. The TAMHSC-Costal Bend Health Education Center staff will run the class.
