The Nueces County Record Star is currently accepting applications for the 2013 Nueces County Junior Livestock Show Essay Contest.The contest is open to area high school juniors and seniors who will participate in the junior livestock show.

The annual essay contest is held to choose a 4-H, FFA or FCCLA club member who will be featured on the cover and the inside special section promoting the show.

The winner of the essay contest will receive The Nueces County Record Star/Mike Shaw Toyota College Scholarship and will be featured in a story at the front of the 2013 Nueces County Junior Livestock Show special section, which will run in the January 3, 2013 issue of The Nueces County Record Star.

Entries must be between 400 to 600 words in length. The winner will be chosen on the basis of which essay best explains the significance and importance that raising livestock and competing in the annual livestock show has had in his or her life.

Entries must be received no later than 5 p.m. on Dec. 20. Entries must be emailed to mauricio.cuellar@aliceechonews.com. Please include name, school, grade level, member organization and contact information. The winner will be contacted on Dec. 21 for interview time and pictures.
