Just one day after George Zimmerman was acquitted of murder in the death of Trayvon Martin, a vigil was held at the intersection of SPID and Staples.

On Monday evening, about 60 people attended the vigil with signs in a effort to show their concerns about the acquittal. Many wearing hoodies and holding up signs that read “An American Tragedy” and “Remember Trayvon Martin.”

Zimmerman was the neighborhood watch person when he had an altercation with Martin. Martin was shot by Zimmerman, who claims he was defending himself.

At this time, civil rights groups are pushing for new charges to be filed against Zimmerman.
