The Purple Heart Day Ceremony will be held on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 10 a.m. at Sherrill Park. The ceremony will recognize the recipients of the Prestigious Award for Combat Wounded and Killed in Action, the Purple Heart. The Military Order of the Purple Heart Alaniz-Valentine Chapter 598 will host the ceremony and the Corpus Christi Mayor’s Committee for Veterans Affairs will sponsor the event.

We invited all Purple Heart recipients to attend. Members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart will be recognized and those who are not members may be recognized but must have proof of Purple Heart award, DD214, Purple Heart Certificate, or Military Orders for a Purple Heart membership. Those recipients are asked to be early in order to have time to be added to the list or email to with name, service, war wounded, date wounded and a phone number. They still need to present proof of Purple Heart, early by 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Sherrill Park. Only those with MOPH Membership or non-members with proof will be recognized to keep the prestige and respect for the Purple Heart with honor.

Also the Combat Medic and Corpsman, the men who took care of our wounded in the field of battle, will be recognized at the Purple Heart ceremony. The keynote speaker will be Mayor Pete Perkins, Col. Ret. USMC, Ingleside, Texas, Invocation & Benediction by Lt. Billy Hardison from Naval Air Station — Kingsville, and the Veterans Band will provide the music.
