A 21-year-old woman was arrested for murder after police said she intentionally struck a her 24-year-old boyfriend with her vehicle.
The 24-year-old man, identified as Freddie Ayala, died Friday night in a parking lot at Leopard Street and McKenzie Road.
Dena Gomez was arrested and charged with murder. Police said this is the 13th homicide of the year.
Corpus Christi Police responded to a vehicle crash at 10:18 p.m. in which a pedestrian was struck by a red Ford F-150 pickup truck in a parking lot at 10514 Leopard Street. C.P.R. was performed on the 24-year-old man until an ambulance arrived. The man was taken to the hospital by ambulance where the man died from his injuries.
Police officers learned that the man was in a bar when he was approached by Gomez. The man and the woman had a relationship and knew one another. The woman assaulted the man inside the business. The man left the business and the woman followed. The woman then got into a red Ford pickup and struck the man with the vehicle, police report stated.
The woman was taken into custody by Corpus Christi Police and no other suspects are believed to be involved.
Robbery/Homicide Detectives have contacted several witnesses to the event, forensics lab technicians have collected evidence from the crime scene and the F-150 pickup used in the crime was taken to the city impound.
