Bicycle motocross fans of Corpus Christi now have a raceway of their own.
The South Texas BMX Raceway opened to the public on Aug. 3 as members from the CC Parks and Recreation Department joined city officials and STX BMX representatives for a ribbon cutting before the track’s inaugural race.
BMX is currently the fastest growing youth sport in North America, according to STX BMX. It is also one of the newest sports added to the Olympics.
“For many families, BMX racing becomes a weekly ritual,” read the statement. “Spectators get in free and everyone is welcome to come and cheer on the riders. It is quite common in this sport to have moms, dads, brothers, and sisters to all be racing together!”
CC’s new raceway adds to more than 380 BMX tracks in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. STX BMX Raceway is located at 3701 Greenwood.
In order to become a sanctioned USABMX rider, a year-long membership is $60. To ride at STX BMX Raceway, it is $5 to practice and $10 to race, which includes 90 minutes of practice prior. USABMX memberships are valid at all sanctioned tracks.
