A Homeless Veteran Stand Down is coming to Corpus Christi on Sept. 13, 2013 starting at 9 a.m. at the Salvation Army Corps Building, 1802 Buford Street.
The Department of Veterans Affairs is in the third year of the national goal to end Veteran homelessness. This event is one initiative that specifically reaches out to them. The Stand Down in Corpus Christi is a one-day event with providing services such as food, clothing, health screenings, benefits counseling, and other community resources for Veterans who are homeless.
One goal of the event is to provide access to multiple resources for immediate relief from the daily stress of homelessness. More importantly, we will assist them with access to resources which may end their homelessness such as medical and mental health care, shelter, employment/benefits, legal information, social support, and spiritual needs. This effort is possible with the help of many volunteers, agencies, and Veteran groups who have donated time and resources.
