Junior Achievement of the Coastal Bend is proud to announce the 2013 Harbor Half Marathon & Relay/10K/5K and Kids’ Marathon presented by Valero and H-E-B. The Harbor Half is considered the “highest half in Texas” and hosted over 1,000 adult and 500 youth participants in 2012.

The Kids’ Marathon will take place Saturday, October 19th at the Whataburger Field side parking lot and will feature a 1.2 mile run. The Kids’ Marathon is sponsored by H-E-B and Driscoll Children’s Hospital and supported by local schools. It promotes not only exercise, but proper nutrition as a way of life. Prior to the event, youth participants have the option to run and log 25 miles on their own during the months leading up to race day. All who complete the requirements and the final 1.2 miles at the event will receive a finisher’s medal for completing the full marathon.

The Harbor Half Marathon & Relay/10K/5K will take place on Sunday, October 20th. The out-and-back route starts at Whataburger Field Side Entrance at Tancahua and Port Street. Half Marathon runners will tackle the 13.1-mile half marathon route to Sunset Lake Park and back, and relay runners will split the route with Runner 1 starting at Whataburger Field and making the handoff to Runner 2 at Sunset Lake. The 5K/10K route will go from Whataburger Field to the Valero right over the Harbor Bridge. The 5K runners will finish at the Valero and 10K participants will turn around and run back across the bridge to finish at Whataburger Field. Runners have a bird’s eye view of the Corpus Christi skyline, Nueces Bay, U.S.S. Lexington, Texas State Aquarium, Whataburger Field and Port of Corpus Christi, as well as the chance to run through city streets, the North Beach area, the bridge and coastal wetlands. The race course also covers two counties – Nueces and San Patricio – and two cities – Corpus Christi and Portland.

Proceeds will benefit Junior Achievement of the Coastal Bend. For more information, please contact Director Jayne Woodall at Junior Achievement of the Coastal Bend at 361.960.1067 or jwoodall@jast.org or visit www.harborhalf.com.
