CORPUS CHRISTI Calallen confidently came up against another set of Wildcats on Friday night, as they successfully defended their undefeated season against Gregory-Portland, sending Calallen coach Phil Danaher to his 395th career victory. The historic win moved him into sole possession of second place all-time on the Texas high school football wins list, passing legendary Brownwood coach Gordon Wood

Right from the start Calallen unleashed brute force against Gregory-Portland, scoring four touchdowns during the first-quarter alone, three of which by No. 21, J.D. Savanich. Another touchdown was impressively brought in from a 70-yard run by No. 20, Chris Price. By the time the dust settled at the end of the first-quarter, Calallen took stock of the carnage they left behind, leading the game 28-0.

During most of the second-quarter, Gregory-Portland reinforced their defense, keeping Calallen at bay. With seven minutes left in the quarter, a Gregory-Portland touchdown was scored by No. 4, Devin Bisby. Ultimately though, it was Calallen that capped off the first half of the game with an aggressive touchdown made by No. 23, Triston Crossland, with only a minute left.

The rain started falling during the third-quarter, leading to less than favorable weather. Nonetheless, Calallen completed a two-point conversion, and Quarterback Derek Sheible ran a keeper play to score a 4-yard touchdown. Calallen player Dakin Alderson brought in another TD at the start of the fourth-quarter, followed by another by No. 40, Rudy Ramirez, solidifying the already proven power that is the Calallen Wildcats.

Also of note, Calallen kicker, No. 87 Trent Wilson, didn't miss a single field goal during Friday night's game.

In the end, Calallen decimated Gregory-Portland, ending the game with a 51-point lead, at 58-7.

The Calallen Wildcats next come up against Victoria West in an away game at Victoria Memorial Stadium on Friday, Oct. 25.
