You will receive a 10-minute rapid test for same day results. When checking in, just tell the staff “I’m here for World AIDS Day” and the fee will be waived for that day only.

The purpose of the event is to raise awareness and focus attention on the world AIDS epidemic. According to health officials, there has been a steady increase in the number of people living with HIV. Data through December of 2012 indicates Nueces County is the 17th highest in the state for HIV cases and 18th in the state for AIDS cases.

Andrea Hanner, STD/HIV Program Manager states, “HIV has become a manageable condition if people are aware of their test results, so we encourage everyone to get tested and know their HIV status. There will also be some fun give away items for everyone that tests, but you have to come in to see what they are”.
