City Manager Ron Olson announced reorganization plans for the utilities departments effective today. The reorganization makes way for three departments compared to the current seven. The three departments will include Public Works, Office of Environmental and Strategic Initiatives, and Utilities. Each department will be grouped by similar function without the addition of personnel. “Budget and staffing levels will not change; what will change is the management of resources between departments, increasing efficiency and communication which will ultimately allow us to better serve the citizens of Corpus Christi,” said City Manager Ron Olson.
With the reorganization, Gus Gonzalez will become Executive Director of Utilities providing leadership for Storm Water, Wastewater, Water and Gas departments. In the new structure he will manage the divisions of maintenance of lines, treatment and gas. Dan Biles will become Executive Director of Public Works and will guide the divisions of Street Operations, Solid Waste, and Capital Construction.
The third department in the reorganization is the creation of the Office of Environmental and Strategic Initiatives. This new department will be responsible for all environmental permits and management of strategic initiatives, to include the capital improvements program. Recruitment will take place soon for the new director of the department.
