Kevin Fowler made a stop in Corpus Christi at Brewster St. on Saturday, Dec. 21, as part of his 'Deck the Dancehalls' winter tour, to play many of his most popular songs and to promote the holiday tradition of giving.

At each show on his December tour, donations have been collected for the Fowler Food Drive.

“The Fowler Food Drive is a great way for our fans to be able to help those in need locally in their area," said Fowler.

This year, the food drive partnered with the Meals on Wheels Association of Texas.

According to the Association, Meals on Wheels facilitates the independence of homebound senior citizens aged 60 and older by providing a hot nutritious well-balanced lunch delivered Monday through Friday.

"To date, we have a waiting list of 115 persons that are eligible for the Meals on Wheels Program in Corpus Christi, however, federal funds have been reduced during the past couple of years," said Lisa Oliver of the Corpus Christi Meals on Wheels chapter.

Fowler and his food drive decided to pick up the slack, and give all donations collected during Saturday's show directly to The City of Corpus Christi, Parks and Recreation, Senior Community Services Meals on Wheels Program.

For each $5 donation made at the concert on Dec. 21, fans received a raffle ticket for a chance to win a custom signed guitar from Kevin. The raffle winner will be announced on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014.

"Your donation will allow the City of Corpus Christi Senior Community Services Division – Home Delivered Meal Program to continue serving the ever-increasing number of homebound residents in within the city limits," said Oliver. "The meals alone are important to our clients’ well being and independence, but knowing that someone cares about them, wants to visit with them, and really takes the time to help them is probably the most important part of their day."

The Association states that the program served 103,073 home delivered meals during fiscal year 2012. Oliver further urges that the community can also get involved by Adopting A Meals on Wheels Client, through their 'Fund A Meal' program.

"The folks at Meals on Wheels provide a great service year-round to our communities," said Fowler. "This is a way for my band and our fans to show the Christmas spirit by giving to others.”
