Corpus Christi now has its 17th homicide case of 2013, and a 19-year-old faces a possible murder charge for the death of his grandfather after a fight on Dec. 29.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a report of an assault on the 100 block of Same Rankin St. at 4:52 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29. Upon arrival, Police arrested 19-year old Ruben Ramirez for aggravated assault after finding a 60-year-old man severely injured.

Police state that the 60-year-old man was intoxicated when he arrived at his grandson's home on Sunday afternoon. A dispute then erupted between the two family members, prompting the 60-year-old man to hit Ramirez with a flashlight. According to Police, Ramirez then grabbed the flashlight from his grandfather and hit him several times.

The 60-year-old man was taken by ambulance to Spohn Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries. The man later died from those injuries on Wednesday, Jan. 1.

As of now, Ramirez is still charged with aggravated assault. With the Police listing this event as the city's 17th homicide of 2013, Ramirez could be facing a murder charge.
