Vietnam Veteran and Veterans Band of Corpus Christi leader Ram Chavez will be leading a group of Veterans to San Antonio to be recognized during the pre-game ceremony of the All-American Bowl at the Alamo dome on Saturday, Jan. 4
Chavez will be honored, along with several Army Veterans of the Veterans Band, the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 598, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 910, and the Association of US Army.
"The All American Army Bowl has been honoring and recognizing our Army veterans for a while. This will be my 4th Bowl," said Chavez. "The recognition of Vietnam Veterans has been late in coming but it has finally arrived for many Vietnam Veterans."
Chavez, as a Vietnam Veteran, was selected to be part of the Coin Tossing Game Ceremony in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War.
"This year, I feel humble to be selected to be part of the Coin Tossing ceremony as a Vietnam Veteran on the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War," said Chavez. "As a combat medic, my experience in Vietnam gave me a better understanding of life and caring."
Coastal Bend Veterans being recognized during the ceremonary are Dan Carranza, Army veteran – Veterans Band; Amador Duran, Army veteran – Vietnam War - Purple Heart Chapter 598; Jodie Chavez – Army veteran – Gulf War – AUSA; Rudy Chavez – Army veteran - Gulf War – AUSA; Kurt Adams – Army veteran – Afghanistan – Purple Heart; Ram Chavez – Army veteran – Vietnam War – Purple Heart Chapter 598, VVA Chapter 910, AUSA, & the Veterans Band.
"I am proud of my Army military service, my experience in Vietnam as a combat medic, and the opportunity I had to save lives," Chavez said. "I salute them."
