District 3 Corpus Christi Councilwoman Priscilla Leal remains in the intensive care unit of a Harlingen hospital in critical but stable condition.

On Friday, a neurosurgeon successfully removed a blood clot and surgically implanted a stent in her brain, following a severe stroke. Her family remains by her side and Mrs. Lealís daughter, Dina Leal Chavez, said the next two days are critical to her motherís recovery. Chavez also said the family is grateful for the outpouring of community support, and asks that everyone continue to keep her in their prayers.

Early last Friday morning, Mrs. Lealís husband, Martin, found his wife on the floor of their home after he heard what sounded like a hard fall. He dialed 911 and she was taken by ambulance to the emergency room at Corpus Christi Medical Center-Doctors Regional. She was later taken by helicopter to Valley Baptist Medical Center.†

Mayor Nelda Martinez is in daily contact with the Leal family. She has received questions from the community regarding Mrs. Lealís future on completing her term. Martinez said, "It is too premature at this point to consider. We need to be patient and allow Councilwoman Leal to heal. We will take this one day at time. As far as I am concerned, my hope and prayers are for her recovery with the goal of having her finish out her public service back in her chair in council chambers."

Mrs. Leal is a four term City Council member.
