Josefina “Josie” Mejia went to be with our Lord on Sunday, January 12, 2014. She was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She was born on March 23, 1931 in Mercedes, Texas to Elijio and Petra Gonzalez Mejia. Josie was the center and heart-beat of the Mejia family. She directed and lead at the family gatherings with her humor and love for all. She was blessed with an incredible memory of recalling everyone’s birthdays and remembered many neighbors from long ago. Josie never met a stranger. She was known by many and loved by all! She welcomed and greeted all at Trisun Nursing Home where she spent her last years. Josie will be best remembered by her humor, strong will to speak her mind, and surviving the infamous rattlesnake bite in Robstown.
Josefina is now reunited with her parents, Elijio and Petra Mejia; her beloved sisters, Maggie Barrera and Dora Flores; and her brother, Edward Mejia.
Josie leaves behind to cherish her memories her brothers, Leonardo (Norma) Mejia of Odem, Texas, Paul (Mari) Mejia and Elijio Mejia, Jr. of Brownsville, Texas; her sisters, Petra (Joe) Valdez of Robstown, Texas, Lydia (the late Macario) Soza of San Patricio, Texas, Vangie (Richard) Gonzalez of Odem, Texas; her brothers-in-law, Antonio A. Maldonado, Emilio Flores, Robert Barrera, and sister-in-law, Gaye Mejia of Robstown, Texas. She was also blessed with numerous nieces and nephews who she loved like her own.
