District 3 Councilwoman Priscilla Leal was released from Valley Baptist Medical Center today, Wednesday, Jan. 22, to return to Corpus Christi after spending almost two weeks in the Harlingen hospital after suffering a severe stroke.
Mrs. Leal's daughter, Dina Leal Chavez, informed Mayor Nelda Martinez that Mrs. Leal will undergo intensive rehabilitation at a local facility. Martinez said, "The family is pleased Mrs. Leal will be coming home to Corpus Christi for therapy. However, the therapy will be rigorous and intensive. She has a long journey ahead for healing and the family asks to please understand visitors will be limited to family until an appropriate future time. The family deeply appreciates the prayers and compassionate support Councilwoman Leal has received from the community."
On Friday, Jan. 10, Mrs. Lealís husband found his wife on the floor of their home and dialed 911. She was taken by ambulance to a local emergency room and later airlifted to Valley Baptist Medical Center for treatment. A neurosurgeon successfully removed a blood clot and surgically implanted a stent in her brain.
Mayor Nelda Martinez is in contact with the Leal family and asks that the community continue to keep Mrs. Leal in their prayers. Mrs. Leal is a four term City Council member.
