High school baseball is once again just around the corner. Schools around the state began practice on Friday, including some area teams with big expectations.

The Calallen Wildcats, who are no strangers to expectation, were voted No. 13 by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association's preseason poll. Calallen was the No. 1-ranked team in last year's preseason.

The Wildcats' season ended in the Region IV semifinals last year after falling to Alamo Heights 6-5 in nine innings.

Another team from Corpus Christi will experience the preseason No. 1 tag this year. Moody enters the season at the top spot in Class 4A after finishing as state runner-up.

Robstown will be in a district with a state-ranked team after Sinton was voted No. 5 by the THSBCA. Expect some good showdowns in 30-3A this season.
