The Sherriff's Office reported on Monday, Feb. 17 that a new scam has hit Nueces County residents.
The scam involves residents receiving a phone call from an unknown person claiming to be from the Nueces County Sherriff's Office. The scammer then tells their victims that they have missed a jury summons and will face immediate arrest, unless the scamming victim sends money to the scammer.
Some reports claim that one Nueces County victim was taken for $4,000.
The Sherriff's Office warns residents that this is not true, and to not send money to anyone claiming otherwise. The County does not request money over the phone or threaten an arrest.
If you receive this call, the Nueces County Sherriff's Office advises the receiver to "just hang up."
