On Tuesday, Feb. 18, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Corpus Christi District Engineer Lonnie Gregorcyk, P.E., announced the selection of Valente Olivarez Jr., P.E., as the new director of operations for the Corpus Christi District.

Olivarez was most recently TxDOT’sPharr area engineer overseeing the area office and three maintenance section offices in the Rio Grande Valley.He takes the place of Toribio Garza, P.E., who assumed duties as the Pharr district engineer on Oct. 1, 2013.

In his new position, Olivarezwill oversee construction, maintenance and traffic operations in TxDOT’s10-county Corpus Christi District.

Olivarez began his TxDOT career as an engineer assistant in the Pharr district in 1999 after graduating from Texas A&M University-Kingsville. He became a licensed professional engineer in June 2004, working on projects such as the US 83 Expressway expansion in the Valley. For his efforts on this project, Olivarez received the Texas Department of Transportation/American General Construction Award in 2009.

Olivarez and his wife Kimberly will live in Corpus Christi with their two sons, Nathan, 6 and Nicholas, 2. Olivarez enjoys being with his family and outdoor activities such as golf and fishing.
