On Friday, District 3 Councilwoman Priscilla Leal and her family traveled to a world-renowned Houston hospital where she was admitted for further therapy for a stroke she suffered in January, according to her husband, Martin Leal.

Leal will be a patient at TIRR Memorial Hermann, a national leader in medical rehabilitation and research with some of the world’s leading physicians. It is the same hospital where former U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords, recovered after being shot. The facility uses individual therapy and group treatment in addressing patient’s functional abilities.

Earlier this year, Leal suffered a severe stroke and has been receiving ongoing treatment. Leal’s husband and daughter, Dina, continue to keep Mayor Nelda Martinez updated on her rehabilitation efforts.

“This is great news. TIRR is an amazing facility and I know Ms. Leal is going to get the additional medical care she needs to become even stronger. We wish her the very best and we continue to keep her and her family in our thoughts and prayers,” Martinez said.
