The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department and the Corpus Christi Tree Advisory Committee (CCTAC) will be hosting a tree planting ceremony at West Guth Park at 11:00 am on Friday, April 25, in celebration of Arbor Day.

Initiated in 1872 by J. Sterling Morton of Nebraska, Arbor Day is a worldwide celebration of trees and call to action for the future. Trees help us conserve energy and topsoil, serve as homes for wildlife, clean our air and provide other countless benefits to our environment.

This event has been made possible through a donation from AEP and will not only help begin the effort to replace trees damaged by windstorms at the park but will also help the CCTAC emphasize the importance of planting the “right tree in the right place”. In addition to planting trees at the park, participants in the ceremony will have a chance to win small trees and plants, tree bags and other commemorative items to take home.

The CCTAC encourages the community to attend the celebration OR visit to find ways to create their own Arbor Day events at their homes, businesses or schools.
