In only her second year of high school, Tuloso-Midway's Kelly Xac will make her second trip to the state golf tournament after winning the Region IV-4A championship at the Buckhorn Golf Club in Comfort.
Xac got off to a nice start with a score of 72 on the first day before closing the regional meet with a 75 in the second round. Her 147 total was two strokes ahead of runner-up Alicia Lehane of Schertz Clemens.
The two-day, Class 4A state tournament will begin April 28 at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin.
Last season, Xac shot a 146 at the Onion Creek Club to place fifth in state. She shot a 74 on the first day before a 72. Only Dallas Wilson's Grace Choi finished under par at last year's state tournament.
As a team, the Cherokees placed fifth with a total of 730.
