Railroad Seafood Station Brewing Co. is one of the largest micro-breweries in South Texas, if not the largest. On Saturday, May 3 from 1-6 p.m., the company will be offering a tour of the brewery, along with live music and games to celebrate their official Grand Opening.
The idea for the brewery began just over four years ago, when Railroad Seafood Station's General Manager and Head Brewer, Alex Hinojosa, began home-brewing. Since then, Hinojosa and his partner have created the brand new full 5-barrel brewery, location inside Railroad Seafood Station & Brewing Co., on Chaparall St.
"Whenever my partner and I came up with this crazy idea, I really wanted to do something special for Corpus Christi. There isn't a lot like this in Corpus Christi. I may be the largest system in South Texas, but even more than that, I want people to walk in and think this is really awesome, and that the beer is good too. And I too want people to relax, and enjoy pints of fresh brewed local beer that you can't get anywhere else," said Hinojosa. "I think it's fun that you can walk in, and I'm brewing beer; where else can you see that? It's a unique experience, drinking a boch beer that isn't from Shiner, that isn't from Zeigen; it's brewed right here in Corpus Christi."
Currently, the Railroad Seafood Station & Brewing Co. is serving six original beers, brewed on location, including Sandy Blonde Ale, Fuzzy Peach Wheat, Hofbrau Bock, Riot Rye Pale Ale, Wicked Black IPA, and our Cocoa Stout. Using those beers as a springboard, the Brewing Company will also offer seasonally-brewed beers throughout the year, such as Jalapeno Blonde, Coconut Cocoa Stout, Peanut Buttercup Cocoa Stout, and other standards.
On Saturday, May 3, the grand opening celebration will allow the community the opportunity to tour the brewery, while also enjoying live music from local band, The Blind Owls, a shrimp boil and games. The Brewing Company will also be giving away special Railroad Brewing pint glasses to the first 25 patrons who arrive.
"I think craft beer right now is fun, and it's hot," Hinojosa said, "but more than that, it's something to offer to Corpus Christi that we haven't had at this level before, or in quite a long time."
Railroad Seafood Station & Brewing Co. is located at 1214 N. Chaparral St.
