One round of the high school baseball playoffs is in the books, and three Record Star teams still remain in the hunt for a state championship.

No. 3 Calallen advanced to the area round with a series sweep of San Antonio Harlandale. The Wildcats put a thrashing on the Indians in the opener, winning 14-3.

Pitching and defense ruled the day in Game 2, but Calallen was still able to walk away with a 1-0, series-clinching victory.

With the series win, the Wildcats will now face fellow Corpus Christi foe Flour Bluff in area. The two are set for a three-game series that begins at Steve Chapman Field on Friday. The series will then shift to Flour Bluff on Saturday.

District 30-4A rival Tuloso-Midway did not fare so well.

The Warriors were swept by No. 12 Medina Valley, failing to score a run in the two losses. T-M dropped the opener 10-0 before a 4-0 finish in Game 2. Medina Valley also ended T-Mís softball season in bi-district.

In Class 3A, Robstown swept its way to the second round.

The Cotton Pickers dispatched Hondo by at least 10 runs each contest. Robstown took Game 1 12-2 before closing the deal with a 16-5 Game 2.

The Pickers will also meet up with a Coastal Bend foe, Kingsville. The series will be played at Fairgrounds Field beginning Thursday.

Banquete will be moving on after taking out Riviera in Class 2A. The Bulldogs needed two games to dismiss the Seahawks, winning 7-4 and 10-1.

The Bulldogs will face Refugio, also at Fairgrounds Field.
