The two Record Star softball teams in the area round of the playoffs had their seasons’ end over the weekend.

In Class 4A, Calallen ran into the District 31-4A co-champion Moody Trojans. Moody walked away with a series sweep, ending the Lady Cats’ playoff run with wins of 4-0 in Game 1 and 7-1 to close it out.

In 2A action, Banquete also ran into a tough opponent, No. 4 Natalia.

The Lady Bulldogs gave the Mustangs all they could handle, however.

Banquete took the series opener into extra innings before a 12-run explosion by Natalia gave them a 13-1 win. The Lady Bulldogs fought back to take Game 2, 7-2, to force a decisive third game.

The Mustangs then proved their state ranking, taking care of Banquete 12-0, ending the Lady Bulldogs’ historic season.

It was the first time in program history that Banquete had made the playoffs and included the first postseason series win.
