The Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section released the year-to-date statistics for criminal complaints for Intoxicated Driving on May 14.

The Corpus Christi Police Department had arrested 557 people for Driving While Intoxicated or Driving Under the Influence from January 1st to May 14, 2014 which is a 36% increase from the same time last year. The Corpus Christi Police Department had arrested 409 people for intoxicated driving offenses by the same time last year and had a total of 1,203 arrests for intoxicated driving offenses for all of 2013; an all time record high quantity for the Corpus Christi Police Department.

The Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section further reported the following as of May 14: 3 arrests for Driving Under the Influence, 189 suspects consented to give a sample of their breath, 145 suspects consented to give a sample of their blood, 218 suspects refused to give a sample of breath or blood and a search warrant was obtained; 8 suspects refused both blood and breath request, and no evidence was obtained.

Further, 60 felony DWI cases were reported as of May 14 for the year of 2014; 29 for DWI with two or more prior convictions, 12 for intoxicated assault. 11 DWI with Child Passenger reported, and 1 intoxicated manslaughter. 141 DWI arrests were involved in traffic crashes.
