One Record Star baseball team remains in the hunt for a state championship.

That team is the Banquete Bulldogs.

It took three games, but Banquete defeated Marion to advance to the Region IV-2A semifinals this week against East Bernard.

Banquete had a strong start to the series, taking down Marion 8-2 in Game 1.

Banquete built a 3-0 lead in the first inning before Marion came within 3-2 in the third. Banquete erupted for five in the fifth inning, however, to pull away.

A.D. Pena went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs in the win.

Game 2 went Marion's way, as they went up 5-0 heading into Banquete's half of the fourth. Marion went on to win 9-4 to force a Game 3.

The last game was the tightest. Banquete held just a one-run lead heading into the final inning before tacking on two insurance scores on the way to a 10-7 win.

Jason Garcia, Jake Mijares, and Marc Riddell each had two RBIs in the series-clinching win.

State-ranked Calallen, on the other hand, was bounced from the postseason by another top 10 team.

The Wildcats were swept by No. 7 Medina Valley in the Region IV-4A quarterfinals, ending Calallen's bid for another state title.

The Wildcats simply could not generate enough offense in the series. Calallen fell 8-2 and 6-1 to close the season.
