Memorial Day came to a tragic end late Sunday night, when four people were killed in a head-on collision on US-77.

According to DPS, a Chevy Suburban was heading south on US-77 when it lost control because of the wet pavement, and began to hydroplane, entering into oncoming traffic. The surburban then hit an oncoming Ford Mustang head-on.

Two passengers in the Suburban riding in the backseat of the Suburban, 69-year old Daniel Villalon and 68-year old Maria Flores Villalon of La Feria, Texas, both died. The driver of the Mustang, 26-year old Daniel Carlos, and the passenger, 45-year old Dioncio Trevino, were also killed in the crash. Both were from Pharr, Texas.

In total, three vehicles were involved in the accident, including a Nissan Ultima that was trying to avoid the crash, but ended up smashing into the Suburban. Five people who were also injured in the crash were treated and released from local hospitals.

DPS states that the crash is still under investigation, and police have yet to issue any citations in the matter. .
