Runoff elections were held on Tuesday, May 27 to decide the winners of a handful of leftover races from the March Primary.
Two races on the ballot focus on Nueces County: the Republican race for Nueces County Commissioner Pct. 4 and the Democratic race for Nueces County Court-at-Law #5.
Republican Brent Chesney won against incumbent Joe McComb in the County Commissioner Pct. 4 race with 52 percent of the vote. Chesney will automatically win the seat because there is no Democrat in the running this election.
Melissa Madrigal took the win against Martha Huerta Quintanilla for the Nueces County Court-at-Law #5 race with 55 percent of the vote. Madrigal will now face off against Republican Timothy McCoy in November.
Overall, voter turnout for the Primary Elections runoff was considerably slow, with the majority of the precincts reporting less than 10 percent coming out to cast their vote.
