Summer has arrived and already we've been blasted with blockbusters, sequels and reboots, such as the worthy X-Men: Days of Future Past, the miscast and terribly written (but still fun to watch) Godzilla, and the mediocrity that is The Amazing Spider-Man 2. But, as the summer continues on, I'm looking forward to wetting my cinema palette with more substantial offerings rather than the hordes tentpole franchise and popcorn flicks that will be flooding theaters.

It's perfectly fine to catch Transformers 4: Age of Extinction or 22 Jump Street (which I might just do so with the latter), but often times some of the best the summer has to offer are the smaller flicks that ultimately get overlooked in the shadow of the giants.

Therefore, here are the five films I'm most anticipating this summer which have nothing to do with Marvel or Michael Bay.
