During a regular session on Tuesday, the Corpus Christi City Council unanimously agreed to begin demolition of two of the Columbus Ships.

Sadly, the Pinta and Santa Maria are in such bad condition, they do not have the ability to be fixed, according to staff and volunteers who have been working on the restoration of the three Columbus ships.

Parts of the demolished ships will eventually go on to help the restoration of the Nina, which is in better condition.

The public will also get a chance to buy parts of the Columbus vessels before they go on to the final demolition process, and are gone forever. After that, the plan is to rebuild the plaza surrounding the Nina, which will to include a playground.

The City Manager will oversee the progress of the demolitions.
