Irene T. Castaneda, 98, went home to be with the Lord on August 24, 2014 surrounded by her loving family by her side. She was born in Lockhart, Texas on April 23, 1916 to Jesus and Maria de Jesus Trevino to a family of 13 brothers. The family moved to Robstown in 1926. In 1932, she married Jose Castaneda and lived at the Perry Foundation for 50 years where she was a great homemaker and raised her fifteen children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren who were the apple of her eye even up to her last days she was still able to recognize and remembered each one of their names. She loved each one in their own special way and she surely was the Matriarch of the Castaneda family.
Irene was very active in the community and volunteered her services at the Robstown and Banquete Senior Citizens Center and she even received commendations from Congressman Solomon P. Ortiz and Nueces County. She enjoyed going to the Senior Citizen Center where she visited with her friends and she was selected twice as the Valentine's Day Queen. She also enjoyed playing bingo, going to the Casinos and was always ready to for a trip with her family and friends. Irene was a loving mother, grandmother great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt and friend who will be dearly missed by all the lives she touched.
Irene goes home to reunite with her parents; her husband, Jose Castaneda; her sons, Jose Castaneda, Jr., Antonio Castaneda, and Manuel Castaneda; her daughter, Maria Ramon; her 13 brothers, her grandsons, Ricky Gutierrez, Gilbert Ramon, Jr., and Jaime Garcia; her granddaughters, Ashley Flores, and Dinorah Castaneda; her great grandson, Jason Manuel Molina; and her son-in-laws, Abel Gutierrez and Hector Gutierrez whom preceded her in death.
She leaves behind to cherish her loving memories, her children, Olivia Gutierrez, Enrique (Yolanda) Castaneda, Lupita (Ernesto) Garcia, Joe (Terry) Castaneda, Carmen Gutierrez, Janie Espinoza, Robert Castaneda, Alfredo (Norma) Castaneda, Mary Ann (Henry) Bazan, Diane McBride, Doris (Raul) Flores; her daughter-in-law, Maria Elena Castaneda; her son-in-law, Gilbert Ramon, Sr., and her sister-in-law, Manuela Trevino. She was also blessed and adored by her 32 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, August 27 & 28, 2014 at Ramon Funeral Home in Robstown, Texas. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 29, 2014 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Robstown, Texas. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Lupita Garcia for the wonderful job that she did in taking care of our mother. Special thanks goes out to the staff of River City Hospice for all their care and support and to all our family and friends who showed us all the love and support shown to our family during our mother's final illness is greatly appreciated.
