David Pena Rodriguez, 56, was born in Robstown, Texas on September 12, 1958 to Amelia Pena Rodriguez and Nicolas G. Rodriguez, Jr. He was the sixth of seven rowdy Rodriguez children: Nicholas III, (Irma), Carlos Gilberto, Sr. (the late Amanda), Daniel Sr. (Dalia), Luz Enedelia Molina (Valentin, Sr.), Noelia Naba (Enrique), and Roland (Arlene). He was lovingly nicknamed “The Kid” at a young age that endured throughout his life.
He was a loving, compassionate person who was a friend to the least of these. David had a wonderful sense of humor that filled others with laughter, and his face with a constant smile. He was an avid sports fan and loved his job of transporting Cotton Picker athletes, especially the Lady Picker softball team, to and from competitions. The amount of friends David had is absolutely innumerable, and the love he had for them immeasurable. Moreover the love he had for his children Amanda Cisneros, Cassandra Nicolette, and David Rodriguez Jr., and his grandchildren Ananda, Isaiah, Aubrey, Malea, and Matthew David, and finally his loving wife Sylvia is unparalleled.
David succumbed to his fierce battle with cancer Sunday morning October 19, however through his faith we know that Cancer did not win, rather the God who has conquered death is victorious. Though our hearts are heavy, the image of the very mouth that breathed life into him, welcomed him into his eternal home with those five simple words “Well done my good and faithful Son” alleviate our sorrow.
The life of David Rodriguez will be remembered and celebrated on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 with a viewing from 5 to 6 p.m., and a prayer service from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Ramon Funeral Home Chapel in Robstown. A final service will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 10 a.m., also at Ramon Funeral Home Chapel.
