Tuloso-Midway cross country runner Ace Castillo lived up to his name at the District 30-5A meet on Friday.

Castillo won the boys individual championship, helping the Warriors to a district title in the process. Teammate Guillermo Rodriguez placed fourth, one of five T-M runners to finish in the top 17.

The freshman Castillo ran a 15:16.34, 33 seconds faster than the runner up, Millerís Juan Gonzalez.

The Warriors advanced to the Region IV meet Nov. 1 at San Antonioís National Shooting Complex.

On the girlsí side, Calallenís Brooke Barrington and T-Mís Jasmine Fernandez moved on to regionals.

Barrington finished third in a time of 19:09.17 and Fernandez grabbed the last qualifying spot, placing 10th at 19:53.32.

The Cherokees missed out on regionals with a fourth-place finish. District champion Flour Bluff, Gregory-Portland and Alice beat out the T-M girls. Both the Calallen boys and girls teams were ineligible in the team standings with less than five participants.
