CORPUS CHRISTI - The Calallen Wildcats faced off against the No. 5 Flour Bluff Hornets in a District 30-5A game Friday which would end with the Hornets going home the victors.

Both teams put up a fight in what many would consider a nail-biting event that ended with the Hornets taking home the win.

The Calallen Wildcats played a hard fought game in what would result in their third district loss of the season. The Flour Bluff Hornets showed everyone just why they are ranked fifth in the state this evening with a score of 34 -13.

The first half of the game seemed a bit one-sided as the Hornets not only scored on a 12-yard pass to Aaron Dilworth but also managed to intercept the ball twice within the first two quarters.

Calallen would show signs of life when on a kick off JD Savanich would run the ball 90 yards for a touchdown.

The Hornets would respond however with long passes by quarterback Cody Brewer that would put them back into scoring position. Brewer would hand off to Reidel Clayton for another touchdown before the half leaving the score 28 - 13.

The second half would be harder fought for both teams as the Hornets would go for a first down only to have the ball turn over leaving the Wildcats with good field position. The teams would battle back and fourth with neither defensive line budging.

The Hornets would intercept the ball from the Wildcats, however doing so within their own 5 yard line made it an uphill battle for the state ranked team. Holding their line the Wildcats would keep the Hornets at bay for several minutes but another long pass from Brewer would put the Hornets out of the danger zone and back into scoring position in the fourth quarter.

In what was a defensive battle for both teams the Hornets came out ahead scoring for a final time in the final quarter. Though the Wildcat defense worked hard it was not enough to stop the Hornets offense in this district showdown making the final score 34 -13.
