Fire Chief Robert Rocha and the Command Staff recognized two veteran firefighters with one of the departmentís highest honors. These awards are nominated by field personnel and based on their commitment and service to citizens and the City of Corpus Christi.

Fire Captain Dana Lechner was chosen as the 2015 Firefighter of the Year. Captain Lechner joined the department in 1990. He is assigned to Engine 3 at the Rescue Station located on Morgan Avenue. Captain Lechner exhibits great skills in leadership and dedicates himself to the firefighters he works alongside.

Firefighter II Inspector Peter Salazar is the recipient of the 2015 Prevention Officer of the Year. Inspector Salazar has been with the department since 1982. He has served most of his career in the Fire Prevention Bureau. He also serves as an arson investigator and over the years has investigated numerous high profile fires.

These two officers have more than 60 years of dedication combined. Todayís awards were presented at Fire Department Headquarters located at 2406 Leopard St. on the third floor.
