BISHOP - On Tuesday morning, the Celanese facility of Bishop made a presentation of almost $10,000 to a number of organizations from around the local area. The staff of the facility were a big part of the days events as many of them donate personally to support these organizations.
The Boys and Girls Club which has locations in Kingsville, Alice, Corpus Christi and operates in the surrounding areas of Nueces County was on hand to accept the donation which will help them continue to operate in the upcoming year. According to their representative, these funds will help them provide the after-school programs that support the children in these communities.
The Food Bank of Corpus Christi was also on hand for the event and told us how the funds are greatly needed given the volume of people they reach out to on a weekly basis. “We provide over 100 backpack lunches to students every week,” said Beatrice Hanson. “With each lunch costing $4 the funds of almost $10,000 will help us feed these kids.”
“We also have a program where kids can come in and get a meal and their meal ticket is their homework,” Hanson said. “We help them with their homework and with tutoring in addition to providing them with a hot meal because a hungry child can not learn.”
The Driscoll Children’s Hospital was one of the benefitting organizations at the Bishop facility. With representatives on hand to accept the donation they expressed their gratitude for helping them continue to provide the children of Corpus Christi and the surrounding areas receive the care they need.
Without the donations such as these the children would not be able to get the kind of care that the Driscoll Children’s Hospital offers. Hospital officials said that through the children’s hospital they have had patients progress further than even medical professionals had predicted and it is in part due to donations such as these.
“From our standpoint it is just a small token and a way to give back to these organizations and what they do,” said Brian Connelly, Site Director for the Bishop Facility. “What is really special to me is the donations from our employees, they have a big part in making these donations possible.”
Other organizations who received donations at the mornings events were The Ronald McDonald House and the Women’s Shelter of South Texas. The Celanese Facility of Bishop will be breaking ground next week on a Girl Scouts facility that will service the needs of all area Girl Scouts.
