This weekend the 2015 Relay for life kicks off in Robstown at the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds on April 10. The event is scheduled to start at 7 P.M. and last through the morning hours.

The relay for Life is an organized overnight fundraising event that encourages the community involvement. Individuals as well as teams of people can take turns walking around the track.

There will be refreshments as well as food and entertainment in order to keep moral up and build camaraderie between walkers. This is a family friendly event for everyone to enjoy as everyone joins in to raise money to fight cancer.

At the event there is also a survivors lap in which all cancer survivors in attendance take a lap around the track to celebrate their victory in the fight against cancer. The relay for life also takes time to recognize caregivers who have been there to support their loved ones throughout the battle.

The Relay for life helps provide funding for research as well as the Hope Lodge of the American Cancer Society which provides a comfortable and safe place for patients and caregivers free of charge. Other programs supported by Relay for Life include Road to Recovery, Look Good Feel Better, and Reach to Recovery.

All are encouraged to participate in this years relay as everyone gathers at the fairgrounds. As the event is scheduled to run through 7 A.M. Saturday morning those who plan to attend should be on the lookout for a chance of showers the morning of April 11.
