Firefighting is a profession for the bravest. The men and women of the Corpus Christi Fire Department are put in emergency situations on a daily basis and now residents can get a behind the scenes look at what it takes to be one of Corpus Christiís finest.

The CCFD Citizenís Fire Academy provides residents with some of the same training rookies receive. The group will participate in hands-on experiences like how to safely extinguish fires, ďride outĒ with firefighters on an emergency call, learn about the Cityís emergency medical services and ambulance operations, and see the equipment paramedics use to save lives.

Classes are limited to 12 participants and will begin Wednesday, May 6th and run for 12 weeks every Wednesday, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The group will meet at the departmentís Training Academy located on Del Marís West Campus,4101 Old Brownsville Road or at Fire Station #5, 3105 Leopard Street. Applicants must reside in Corpus Christi and be 19 years of age or older.
