Dr. Mohamad Ayman Ghraowi pleaded guilty to a violation of the federal food drug, and cosmetic act as was announced by U.S. Attorney Kenneth Magidson announced. Ghraowi pleased guilty on behalf of the Corpus Christi based South Texas Comprehensive Cancer Centers.
It was reported to the Food and Drug Administration received information from foreign Healthcare Regulations Agencies that counterfeit cancer medications may have been illegally imported into the United States. In an investigation conducted by the FDA it was found that the Cancer Center was one of several clinics in the U.S. that purchased this misbranded foreign drugs from the distributor that was importing the counterfeit drugs.
With the guilty plea accepted by Judge Janice Ellington the corporation will have to surrender $900,000 which was the purchase price of the misbranded drugs. In addition the corporation will also be on probation for the next five years.
