It was confirmed by the National Weather Service that a tornado did touch down in Corpus Christi on Sunday May 24. The tornado touched down at close to 1:30 A.M. and damaged an area ranging from the HEB on South Port Avenue to just South of the West side of Corpus Christi.
The tornado was classified as an EF-1 tornado and had winds estimated at a near maximum of 90 miles per hour. The City of Corpus Christi Emergency Management has been surveying the damaged area and are currently working towards clean up.
So far the area that suffered the most impact is near Tarlton Street north of Gallihar Road and Greenwood Drive.
Two city parks suffered damage and the area has seen a number of damaged and down trees in addition to vehicle damage. The HEB Supermarket also suffered damage from the tornado.
