In the evening hours of June 22 a Corpus Christi Police Officer was involved in a traffic accident with a pedestrian at approximately 9 P.M. The pedestrian has not yet been identified.

According to the Corpus Christi Police Department the officer was traveling West bound on the 9700 block of Leopard Street. It was during this time that the accident occurred near the Corpus Christi Fire Department.

Upon contacting the dispatcher the Fire Department arrived on the scene and began providing emergency medical assistance. The pedestrian was a male and was transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital and is listed in critical condition at this time.

A preliminary investigation show that the pedestrian crossed the street and walked into the lane of traffic while outside of a crosswalk. The area was poorly lit and the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing.

The officer involved was shaken but is uninjured following the accident.

The Corpus Christi Police Department is following up with investigators who were on the scene taking pictures and interviewing witnesses. The investigation has continued pending a final conclusion.
