The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi College of Nursing and Health Sciences and the Student Nursing Association are hosting a free health fair for military veterans and their immediate family members on Saturday, July 11, from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M. The health fair will take place at VFW Post 2397, at 4441 Ayers St., near Port Ave.

The health screenings will include blood pressure, body mass index, cholesterol and blood sugar (must be 18+ year old for cholesterol and blood sugar), along with education on diabetes and mental health wellness. Health screenings will be done by members of the Student Nursing Association and veteran nursing students.

Military veterans face a multitude of specific health issues that are unique to their service. Specific issues faced by veterans include infectious diseases, chemical exposure, shrapnel and gun wounds, lost limbs, head and brain injuries, and mental health issues, such as PTSD and depression.
