CORPUS CHRISTI - The Texas Department of Transportation was on hand at the Walmart near Greenwood to perform another child safety seat inspection on July 8th between the hours of 9 A.M. and 12 P.M. Those who attended were treated to a free inspection of their child safety seat and its installation in their vehicle.
The Department of Transportation notes that 3 out of every 4 safety seats are not properly installed which can be very dangerous for passengers if involved in a traffic accident. In addition to checking the installation of the seat the group also checks for any manufacturer defects or recalls on the safety seats owned by the public.
The Department of Transportation was not only their to educate parents and make sure the proper installations were taking place, but they were also there to make needed replacements. For parents whose child safety seats were defective or not installed properly, the Department of Transportation had replacement safety seats on hand.
At the end of the event parents were very happy with the information they received and their children were able to ensure a safe ride home. The Department of Transportation hosts safety checks throughout the year and a calendar can be found online at www.txdot.gov
