The Jim Wells County Juvenile Probation Department is ready to host their 10th annual Back-to-School Bash.

The event will start at the Women's Building towards the Merchant's Building at the Jim Wells County Fairgrounds on Aug. 14 from 5 p.m. till 8 p.m.

Last year, the juvenile probation department handed out 1,000 bags with school supplies for local children and had 30 vendors, said Chief Probation Officer Jimmy Schmidt.

There is 42 vendors this year.

“We can't give them everything they need, but at least they get the basics,” Schmidt said.

The department collected school supplies from businesses and people in the community. A $3,000 donation was made to the juvenile probation department which was used to purchase school supplies, Schmidt said.

They will be raffling backpacks. There will be games and music for the kids.

Kids will be able to win free haircuts from local stylists, Schmidt said.

The Palmer Drug Abuse Program will be donating food and drinks to the public at no cost.

Any remaining school supplies will be taken to school districts throughout Jim Wells County, Schmidt said.
