The Calallen Lady Wildcats picked up some huge early-season hardware Saturday by winning the Corpus Christi ISD Spikefest.

It was the second time in the program’s history that the Lady Wildcats completed back-to-back tournament championships. Organizers said the last team to win back-to-back Spikefest championships was Corpus Christi King in 2010, the same year the Lady Mustangs went on to the Class 5A semifinals.

Calallen won the tournament Saturday by beating San Marcos, 25-18, 25-22, 25-16.

Calallen middle blocker Hollann Hans, a Texas A&M volleyball recruit, and freshman Kylie Trefflich each had nine kills to lead the Lady Wildcats past San Marcos. Hans also added a team-best 13 digs.

Calallen junior Alexis Sacky and senior Kayli Crauthers joined Hans on the all-tournament team. Sacky had two kills to highlight Calallen's run to help the Lady Wildcats up its lead to 19-13 in the first game. Sacky also had a kill late in the second set to extend the Lady Wildcats' lead to 24-22. Cristina Basaldu recorded a team-high 29 assists.
