Firefighters were kept busy with grass fires over the weekend in Ben Bolt, Benavides, Premont and the Orange Grove area.

About 100 acres burned with an estimated 20 houses were threatened from Green Acres to south of Ben Bolt Saturday about 5:30 p.m.

No structure homes were damaged and no injuries reported.

"Together as a team the fire was brought under control and extinguished," said BBVFD Chief Patrick Thomas. "Also we thank the community members that came out to help with the heavy equipment and to the people who came out with buckets of water and put out hot spots on the side of Ben Bolt. Also want to thank Lino Requenez for coming out with some bottle waters and handing them out to our firefighters."

Departments from Alice, Orange Grove and San Diego assisted Ben Bolt volunteer fire department.

On Saturday, Orange Grove had a few small grass fires along Highway 359. It was believed to have started by a motorist whose vehicle was shooting sparks as he traveled through the area.

Benavides and Premont were also hit with minor grass fires. No injuries were reported in those fires.
