Reckless driver

A reckless driver was arrested on Sunday by Alice Police officers on the 1500 block of Flournoy.

Officer Martin Suarez was advised of a possible intoxicated driver in a GMC Yukon. Suarez observed the driver, later identified as Joshua Lee Garza, who swerved across the white line onto the shoulder several times, report stated.

When the vehicle came to a stop, Garza opened the door and stumbled out of the driver seat with a dazed and confused look, report stated.

The officer detected a strong odor of synthetic marijuana and patted Garza down. Garza told the officer he had several alcoholic beverages.

Garza gave Suarez consent to search his vehicle. The search uncovered several roaches with synthetic marijuana in the cup holder and two clear bags with synthetic marijuana inside the console, stated Suarez's report.

Also found was a tin foil pipe with synthetic marijuana residue and three unopened 24-ounce cans of beer.

Garza told the officer he had two previous convictions for driving while intoxicated.

The suspect was handcuffed and taken to the Jim Wells County jail. He was charged with driving while intoxicated third or more and possession of a controlled substance.
