The Calallen Topcats are starting their 2015-2016 Competition team. This year they’re taking three varsity (possibly four), three officer routines, three assembles, six solos, and trio and duet. They will be attending Danceline here at Calallen ISD (February 27), MA at Ray High School (March 5), Showtime Regional at Tuloso Midway (March 19), and Showtime Nationals at Galveston (April 2 and 3). The girls started practicing the 14th of November and have working hard ever since.

Every year is a new year which means new struggles. But it also means new choreography! Every year we have new choreographers come and teach us new routines, then their coach, Rhonda Voorhees, cleans the routines in time for competition.

“I’m most excited to see what choreography were given and to see the routine come together” says Mrs. Voorhees Topcat Director.

Last competition season the girls finished with a bang! National Champions!

“As far as getting another big win we always hope for the best but many factors go into place to get there, depending on how bad the girls want it this year!” also said by Mrs. Voorhees.

The girls also have struggles of their own every year. Whether it’s searching for bobby pins the night before you leave for Nationals, or running a routine one thousand times in your head before you even perform it.

“My solo is my biggest struggle this year because it’s my first year to compete with one.” Junior Topcat Kylie Long said. “But the team’s motivation is what gets me through the year.” Another big struggle girls have their own is making varsity for their first year. Making varsity is kind of a big deal.

Motivation is key when it comes to the Calallen Topcats. The girls love to be cheered for before and after their performances. But they really like to be motivated by each other.

“I really like to be motivated by each other. “ I really like how well we get along and how hard we all work together,” sophomore Marissa Hernandez said. “It’s all about staying positive.”

The Calallen Topcats love getting support from their peers and love to see familiar faces at their competitions! So come out and support your favorite Calallen Topcat in their 2016 competition season!
